Dr. Joe Dispenza's research in neuroscience and brainwave states reveals that gamma waves are connected to moments of profound insight, creativity, and even spiritual awakenings. Dispenza has shown that individuals can cultivate these states through intentional practices, such as meditation, by resting their attention on the heart and focusing on present-moment awareness. This is largely what we focus on in our Warrior Qigong Series.
In the gamma state, the brain functions as a highly synchronised unit, connecting regions across our neural network that are usually separated in lower-frequency brain states. This results in an experience of deep coherence and unity within the mind, body, and Spirit - a state where our heart, brain and soul function in harmony, leading to what can be described as "heart-mind-soul coherence." This has to be practiced.
The heart plays a crucial role in this process. Many researchers have demonstrated that the heart generates an electromagnetic field that is far more powerful than that of the brain. When we rest our attention on the heart, we begin to shift our focus from our analytical, thought-driven mind to a place of pure experience. This shift can silence the habitual emotional patterns that are often tied to past traumas or future anxieties.
By tuning into the heart and practicing gratitude, compassion, or love, we can stimulate the heart-brain connection and create a state of coherence, where the signals sent by the heart to the brain become more harmonized. In this state, we transcend reactive emotions like fear, anger, or stress, and instead, experience higher emotional states that influence our physiology.
To experience the full benefits of gamma brain wave states and heart coherence, we engage the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems in a balanced way. The parasympathetic nervous system governs the "rest and digest" functions of the body, promoting relaxation, healing, and a sense of calm. Conversely, the sympathetic nervous system is responsible for our "fight or flight" response, which activates during stress.
When these systems are out of balance, with either too much stress or too much lethargy, we will feel disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed. Qigong, which involves slow, meditative movements and breath regulation, helps balance the nervous systems by encouraging present-moment awareness and body-centred focus.
Through this practice, we not only anchor ourselves in the body, but we also stay focussed in the "now." Disciplines like Kinesiology and works like Power vs Force, have shown us that the body is always in the present moment. When we focus on our senses we are automatically shifted into the present, anchoring ourselves in the body rather than the mind’s projections into the past or future.
Dispenza emphasises that real change happens when we transcend the habitual mind and emotions, replacing them with new, elevated experiences. When we enter the present moment, the nervous system naturally begins to regulate itself, creating a positive feedback loop that promotes healing and balance.
Qigong, incorporates mindful deliberate movement, breath control, and meditation which cultivates and balances life energy, or “Qi.” (pronounced 'Chi'). When we practice Qigong, we calm the mind, open the heart, and ground ourselves in the body, and this aids the regulation of the nervous system.
Present-moment awareness is critical for transforming old emotional patterns and creating permanent changes in our physiology (as Dispenza notes). When we engage in practices like Qigong, we shift attention away from the repetitive and mundane thoughts that often plague our consciousness.
Instead, we cultivate mindfulness and awareness of the body, heart, and breath. In doing so, we create the ideal conditions for entering gamma brain wave states and, by extension, states of profound coherence and ecstasy.
The synthesis of Qigong and present-moment thinking allows us to bypass the emotional conditioning of the past and the anticipatory stress of the future. In these moments, our nervous system recalibrates, creating a sense of 'groundedness', safety, and joy.
Permanent change in our emotions, physiology, and energy, requires moving beyond the emotional triggers tied to past experiences. Many of us remain trapped in cycles of emotional reactivity, driven by unconscious memories or future anxieties.
However, by focusing beyond these repetitive emotions and anchoring our awareness in the heart and present moment, we can enter a superconscious state that promotes lasting transformation.
In this superconscious gamma brain wave state, we transcend the limitations of the mind and open ourselves to a new level of existence. The heart becomes the compass that guides our thoughts and actions, allowing for coherence between the mind, heart, and soul. This coherence has profound effects on our physiology, including reduced stress, improved immune function, and a greater sense of well-being.
When heart-mind-soul coherence is achieved, we are no longer controlled by the mundane, repetitive thoughts of the past or the anxieties of the future. Instead, we experience a deep sense of connection with ourselves and the world around us, leading to a state of inner peace, joy, and ecstasy.
By focusing beyond our usual thoughts and feelings and resting our attention on the heart, we can enter a superconscious gamma brain wave state that fosters coherence, ecstasy, and lasting transformation. Qigong and present-moment thinking offer a pathway to regulating our nervous systems and grounding ourselves in the body, enabling us to experience permanent positive changes in our physiology, emotions, and lives.
Tapping into this connection through intentional focus and practice, we can transcend emotional patterns and create a life filled with coherence, joy, and fulfilment.
